Chop 1/2 cup of Maraschino cherries into quarters. Set aside.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Combine room-temperature butter, sugar, and vanilla in a large mixing bowl.
Stir in the eggs.
Stir in the dark cocoa powder.
In a separate bowl, whisk together flour and baking soda.
Slowly stir the flour and baking soda mixture into the wet ingredients.
Stir in the Maraschino cherries and chocolate chips.
Pour the brownie batter into a greased and lined 8x8 baking pan.
Bake at 350 degrees for 35-40 minutes.
Remove finished brownies from the oven and allow to cool for at least 20 minutes.
After they cool fully, cut them into pieces and enjoy!
